A Diabetes Educator provides diabetes self-management education for people with diabetes. They play a major role in self-empowering the person with  diabetes by focusing on an individual’s needs, providing knowledge, motivation and support to aid the prevention of diabetes related health complications. The Mater Health Services would like to introduce Elaine Mennon, Elaine is a UK trained nurse and midwife of many years and very varied experience. Her interest in diabetes education was born from several years caring for high risk pregnant diabetic women. She undertook a Grad. Cert. in Diabetes Education from Deakin in 2002, and became a fully Credentialed Diabetes Educator in 2006. She has been providing diabetes education at the Mater Hospital, for both inpatients and outpatients from the Townsville community, for over 15 years.

Elaine views her role as being pivotal in helping patients fully understand their condition and empowering them with the tools to manage it. She prides herself in getting to the heart of what patients find particularly difficult about their diabetes, and working with them to overcome these with realistic solutions.Elaine Menon is in private practice at the Mater hospital, referrals may be addressed to the Mater Medical Suites 104, Ground Floor, 21-37 Fulham Road, Pimlico.
