Pastoral Care

Pastoral Care a special ministry of the Mater Hospital, which seeks to respond compassionately to the spiritual and emotional needs of patients, family members and staff.

Mater’s Pastoral Care includes:

  • Regular patient visits
  • Listening sensitively to the concerns and needs of each person
  • Spiritual and emotional support
  • Support in crisis
  • Help in grief and loss
  • Prayer
  • Distribution of communion
  • Sacrament of the sick.

Prayer room

A prayer room is situated on the ground floor at the Mater Hospital Pimlico, adjacent to the administration area. It offers a space for quiet prayer and reflection and anyone is welcome.


The Mater Hospital Pimlico Chapel is situated on Level 2, near the Cardiac Ward. Mass is celebrated each Tuesday at 10am by the Hospital Chaplain.

Televised Services

Patients are able to watch Catholic Mass by tuning in to Channel 28 in their rooms at 10am each Tuesday.  A dedicated Catholic Channel is available 24/7 on Channel 29.


A member of our Pastoral Care team is available Monday to Friday between 8am and 4.30pm, plus there is someone on call after hours and on weekends.

The Hospital Chaplain and other Ministers of Religion visit the hospital on a regular basis.
