Biography and Clinical interests

Associate Professor Jay Iyer is an advanced endoscopic surgeon practising at Mater Private Hospital Townsville.

Dr Iyer’s expertise lies in the field of complex gynaecological surgical problems, with a particular focus on complex laparoscopies, severe endometriosis, large uterine and pelvic masses and pelvic floor disorders.

He trained at the prestigious Armed Forces Medical College in Pune, India and holds a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery and Doctor of Medicine from the University of Pune.

Dr Iyer also holds a Diplomate of the National Board in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in India and is a Member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in London.

He has a diverse training and work background, including serving in the Armed Forces for 16 years and retiring as a Classified (Senior) Specialist, having attained the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.

Dr Iyer moved to Townsville in 2010 where he trained further in urogynaecology and fine-tuned his advanced laparoscopic surgery skills.

He is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in the United Kingdom.

Today, Dr Iyer operates the Mater Pelvic Health - Minimal Access Gynaecology service, which offers focussed, multi-speciality, tertiary-level management of the most complex gynaecological and urogynaecological conditions.
