Dr Matan Ben David

Biography and Clinical interests

Dr Matan Ben David is a Hepatobiliary, weight loss and general surgeon at Mater Private Hospital Townsville and Townsville University Hospital (TUH). After completing his surgical training in Israel, he has further pursued fellowship training in Paris, France and at The Chris O’Brien Lifehouse, The Royal Prince Alfred and St. George Hospitals in Sydney.

Currently Dr Ben David consults and is the clinical lead for North Queensland including Cairns and Mackay on a range of complex liver and pancreas conditions. He is also the clinical lead for trauma at TUH.

Dr Ben David has published extensively in the field of bariatric surgery and has given numerous presentations in national and international professional meetings.

In addition to his clinical work, he is an entrepreneur in the field of medical device innovation and is currently the co-founder and board member of Exero Medical, developing an early anastomotic leak detection device.

Dr Ben David regularly consults and operates at Mater Private Hospital Townsville on a range of surgical conditions with a particular focus on:

- Advanced minimally invasive (keyhole) surgeries
- Liver and pancreas malignant and benign disease
- Gallbladder conditions
- Weight loss surgery
- Minimally invasive approaches to complex abdominal wall hernia.
