Mater delivers its Intern Training Program in partnership with the Townsville Hospital Health Service (THHS), to offer interns a blended experience of private and public hospital systems. Mater and THHS do some program activities together (including start of year orientation, allocations and education delivery), and some program activities separately (including governance, recruitment, delivering accredited placements, certifying completion and evaluation).

The partnership is formalised under the Clinical Placement Agreement for the Clinical Placement of Interns between THHS and Mater Private Hospital Townsville. Mater also has a rotational relationship with North West Hospital and Health Service (NWHHS), for the delivery of ED rotations by Mount Isa ED and surgical rotations by Mater.

Forty unique placements are available for the supervised practice component of the program,
situated in diverse hospital, community and country practice settings within our North Queensland clinical training network of Townsville and associated sites (including Palm Island, Ingham, Charters Towers) and Mount Isa.
